EPRG Draft: Best Practice Guidelines for Hydrogen Gas Testing
New draft best practice guidelines for small scale fracture toughness testing in hydrogen gas of carbon steel pipeline material are now available.

As part of our commitment to the energy transition, EPRG is pleased to announce the publication of the Draft Best Practice Guidelines for Small Scale Fracture Toughness Testing in Hydrogen Gas.
This document addresses the vital challenges of adapting existing gas infrastructure for the transportation of hydrogen.
Technical Focus
The guidelines focus on carbon steel pipeline materials and provide a standardized framework for:
- Specimen Preparation: Standardizing small-scale samples for hydrogen environments.
- Testing Conditions: Defining pressures and temperatures for reliable fracture mechanics data.
- Data Interpretation: How to translate small-scale results into pipeline integrity assessments.
This draft is currently being reviewed by our Technical Committees and is a significant step toward a safer European Hydrogen Backbone.
